Okay, so if you’re reading this you probably either have oily skin, acne prone skin, sensitive skin, all three, or just want to support me and read what I have to say! Whatever your reason is, I’m glad you’re here to find out what my simple skincare routine is for my sensitive, oily, acne prone skin.
So let’s start off with some background on my skin. I had always loved my skin, but I haven’t always known how to take care of it. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten more and more into skincare products and I’m constantly learning about them. What kind of skin to I have? I have ALWAYS had sensitive, oily skin and hormonal breakouts, especially close to period time. My skincare routine is so simple because I’m extremely cautious about what I put on and in my body since I’m currently breastfeeding. When I’m done with breastfeeding I will incorporate more into my routine, but for now this is it!
Okay now lets jump into this SIMPLE skincare routine:
1.) Cleanse
The first step in my skincare routine is cleansing my face. I have a couple cleansers cleansers. My every day cleanser is Tula’s Super Calm Milk Cleanser. It’s a gentle cleanser perfect for sensitive skin and it DOES NOT contain milk. (I had to look that up because of my daughter’s allergies.) If I’m removing my makeup or feel like my skin needs a deeper cleaning, I use Tula’s The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser. I love this cleanser because it gives my skin deep cleansing, but doesn’t irritate my skin! Please please please wash your face in the morning AND night! ESPECIALLY if you have worn makeup that day. Cleansing your face prevents the product of excess oils, which is crucial for us that have oily and acne prone skin.
2.) Exfoliate
Step two in my skincare routine is exfoliating. I use Dermalogica’s Daily Exfoliant every OTHER morning. This exfoliant is perfect for sensitive skin because it is gently exfoliating. It’s so gentle on your skin, you could use it daily if you wanted to! It also contains salicylic acid and tea tree oil, which help keeping your skin clear. I started exfoliating because I wanted to get rid of dead skin cells and I’m on making my skin brighter and more even.
3.) Tone
Using a toner is the third step in my skincare routine. The toner I use is Tula’s Get Toned Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing Toner. I use this toner once I day because I notice if I use it twice a day my skin gets irritated. You can try to use it morning and night, but if your skin is telling you that’s too much start using it once a day. This toner helps keep the skin even toned and smooth.
4.) Moisturize
Okay, so this is my favorite skincare moisturizer for oily skin. I had tried sooo mnay products that were “oil-free” but still left me looking GREASY at the end of the day. I mean SHINY honey. BUT GOD!! I found Murad’s Clarifying Oil Free Water Gel and now I can’t go without it. I’m going to link it from Amazon, Ulta, Sephora, and Murad‘s website so you have no excuse not to get it! It is lightweight, but still hydrates the skin which leaves it soft and supple AND helps against breakouts.
5.) SPF
This is skincare step that is so important. FOR ALL skin colors. Yes my melanin sisters and brothers, we need to wear sunscreen as well. Right now I bounce between two sunscreens: Black Girl Sunscreen or Tula’s Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Both are great and don’t leave a white cast on my skin!!
So that’s all folks! Those are the 5 simple steps in my skincare routine for my oily, acne prone skin. I know some of you all are probably thinking I’m missing some steps, but this works for my skin right now. Especially while I’m still breastfeeding. After, I’ll start adding to my skincare routine!
